Please mind my english. It's very terrible...so let keep it as simple as possible :).
I have been playing CK2 since a few month ago. It's a great game with the whole conquest and everything you could hope for in a strategy game. After getting bored for awhile, I decided to play around with the CK2's DNA. Somehow, I managed to changed the portrait in-game with the help of a nifty tool called Cheat Engine.
First, we need access to the dna of the person we're aiming to or our ruler himself/herself
We can search it by string (not recommended) or you could just download a cheat table from Recifense,(credit to him for sponsoring most of my strategy games c.e table) someone great at the cheat engine forum.Go here for the table << scroll down a bit from the page.
(choose your version of CK2 or it will not work.)
If someone never used this tool before, here's a short tutorial.
1.Download, install cheat engine, open CK2 game. (DO IT IN A TEST SAVE or BACK IT UP First)
2.Target the process (when C.E open, click the computer magnifying icon, and double click CK2game.exe.)
3.Then there's an open folder icon, click it,search for downloaded file/table, then load it.
4.There will be crusader king 2 script something at the low panel, activate it by double click or highlight + space.
5. A bunch of cool stuff for cheating come out. but what we need is the ruler info and selected character info.
6. Tick it for more option. The ruler info is for your ruler. The selected character info is for the person you targeting.
7. Then it will auto show you the dna player you currectly using or the person you target, provided of course you already in the game and not in the main menu,
8. Now, what to change?
After screwing around, I used the ruler designer to make a custom character, resign back out, repeat the process.
Here's what I found :
In the outdated wiki (here)
1-neck 2-chin 3-mouth 4.nose 5-cheek 6-Unused 7.eyes 8.ears 9.hair colour. 10.eyes colour 11.unused
The 5 and 10 maybe factorise in mutation or how the genes inherited by dominant factor, hope someone can tell me what they're used for.
TESTING GROUND~ (I test it for mostly latin, west, central germanic ethnic)
I changed everything; eyes,chin,nose,mouth,etc.. to 1, then 2, then 3. (this is the DNA that I got)
everything is 1 = aaaaahaaaad
everything is 2 = bbbbbcbbbbl
everything is 3 = cccccaccccs
That's a nice pattern.Now for next one..
everything is 4 except eyes colour = dddddjdddct
(so, the second last one is eyes colour, cause it maxed at 3.)
then, everything is 5 except neck(maxed at 4) and eyes(maxed at 3) = deeeeieeecr
then everything is 6 except neck and eyes = dffffofffcl
(THEORY PART) (TESTED)
So, the dna sequence will start from (abcdefghijklm) << this is 13, but (nopqrstuvwxyz) will have the same appearance as the next one in the potrait. Like a = n = nose no.1 and b = o = nose no.2. This too applied to eyes colour for example: a,b,c = brown, green, blue then it's repeat at d,e,f = brown, green, blue then g,h,i = brown, green, blue and so on as the cycle repeat.
Maybe this has something to do if your heir was born out of incest so a = a = high probability of incest but a = n = although is the same appearance but not the same gene...
The list can go on, but based on this, I hope you fully understand the ck2 dna system.
So, if you want someone's nose, just target someone then replace the position of the letter with the one you target. Want to change hair from black to blond (no, u can't change arabic to blond (o_o) ) change it. Do whatever you want. Use the console command 'charinfo' make your life a whole lot easier.
Just remember, difference race has their own max of preset and limit just between races with the same appearance. You have been warned!
Hair, beard, clothes, background is on the property tab. I'm just going to say follow the example above and you do fine.
I really hope someone can compiled a pictures of various body part from the ruler designer or better yet, a standalone ruler designer and dna generator. That way I can just changed it on the go with reference, sigh.
By the way, here's an example before and after
....and BAAMM!
Till next time
Thank you~

Look a whole lot better in my opinion. Maybe I should dye her hair, or just modify her gene into a blond or something...

This is a tool I wrote in C# and XAML using WPF, and implementing MVVM. This tool can load in an uncompressed save file from the game Crusader Kings 2, and allows you to edit traits, attributes, held land, and other variables. Although editing and reading in already worked, I never got to writing all the data back into a save file, the tool was thus never released.
The tool no longer works since the release of ‘Monks and Mystics’, the newest DLC, and the development has stopped.

The tool uses various icons and images from the game Crusader Kings 2 to make it look more appealing, as designing these images was not the goal of this project. The tool is not distributed.
